About WebPublisher V2.2
WebPublisher is a Hyper Text
Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Server that allows database content to
be published live on the World Wide Web (WWW). The software can
be deployed in many different ways to satisfy the needs of any organisation
wishing to maintain maximum portability of data.
|
This suite of HTTP tools offers enormous flexibility
to programmers and non-programmers alike because web sites can be built
using small, specific-purpose database libraries comprising dedicated
applications (eg. a diary, year planner, employee listings etc.) that
are connected and published using standard HTML. It also opens up the
market for database developers to create WebPublisher plug-ins performing
specific functions or even complete applications (real estate, computer-dating,
news list management, church calendar etc.) on the web.
|
Applications
WebPublisher is designed to perform a multitude of functions
that enable database content to be published over TCP/IP. It can
be configured to deliver a range of web services including:
-
Publishing and acquiring database content over a TCP/IP enabled
network;
-
Acting as an integration portal collecting streams of data
from a variety of hosts;
-
Behaving as a responder/transponder to transparently acquire
and mark up data across networks;
-
Thick/thin client data management strategies from any point
of presence.
Grab entire web sites and immediately publish them to the Internet
or a corporate intranet. Grab a site and move to another address
or location simply and easily. WebPublisher includes search and
replace tools to permit easy update of all text, links and anchor
references.
|
 |
|
WebPublisher is written in Omnis (from Omnis
Software Inc) and this allows additional programming using "plug-in"
WebPublisher libraries to permit custom DBMS solutions over the
Internet. Almost anything you can imagine doing using TCP/IP can
deployed using one or more custom libraries developed with WebPublisher.
Typical applications that can be built using
WebPublisher include on-line sales catalogues, price lists, rental
accommodation, for sale notices, survey results and virtually any
form of content which changes periodically.
