WebPublisher - Publishing Data
Using the internal management tools supplied, WebPublisher lets you publish any form of web content - static web pages, style sheets and images mixed with database content in any combination.

WebPublisher provides tools for assigning a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address, configuring the listener on a network, assembling static and database HTML content, and responding to requests from web browsers.

WebPublisher can be configured to operate from within an intranet or to respond to requests from the Internet, VPN or other network.

At its most basic level, WebPublisher can perform as programmable web server by allowing any programmer to configure custom services without resorting to cumbersome cgi programming and scripting languages using Perl or C++.

More extensively it can allow you to use existing code to access existing enterprise databases and re-purpose this data on the Internet. Now you can deliver live snapshots of your enterprise data to an audience on the world wide web safe in the knowledge that your data is totally secure. WebPublisher lets you integrate with existing enterprise DBMS systems currently accessed using an Omnis application.

Security is not an issue since each running instance of WebPublisher is a database application - there is no risk of a hacker breaking into the network because they have to penetrate a running application with a pseudo identity. You can even fool users by using conventional suffixes like ".cfm", ".php", or ".asp" to confuse them into believing they are interacting with a different type of environment.

Any library you have written using SQL to connect to a DB2, SQLServer or Oracle host, or accessing a native Omnis data file can be adapted for use with WebPublisher.

This means you can publish your enterprise data without losing any of your investment in written applications.

By using WebPublisher's custom templates you can write Omnis procedures to return HTML for WebPublisher to send back to the browser.

And with WebPublisher's macro editor you can enhance your code with static HTML headers and Footers, Java, Image references, and embedded snippets.

Altogether you have a complete TCP/IP compositing and publishing system.
